CAN IT SUPPORT THE WEIGHT?

I have chosen!
I have chosen concept three as the one to develop. I think it has the most potential for strength and durability, and holding a heavy weight.
Although this concept is a relatively simplistic one, I believe I can refine it into an interesting and dynamic design, incorporating style, clean lines, strength and flair.

CONCEPT TWO
Concept two is an interesting one... the side view is quite cool, but there are issues with whether the back would be able to hold the full weight of someone leaning backwards.
The lowest sitting point of the seat is at 300, which may be a little too low, and the back stretches to 600. With material use is a factor some parts would need to be scaled down

Utilising the curved back in a stable way was hard, but I think I've really come up with something interesting here. The sides curve around to the front secure at the sides, creating a strong back.
Refinement: get the cut and curve right so that the back is on a more comfortable angle, which will probably mean adding extra strength to the back, as it will haveto be able to take a person's weight leaning back further.
Triangles are a very strong shape, and with the curved front it holds up really well for very little support, and in terms of materials used.
I'll be making up a cardboard version and it will need to be a bit longer to accommodate the back rest, maybe another centre support down the middle will help with comfort and stability.
This paper trial did well under pressure and weight, evenly distributed, I think I might have to make up a cardboard one to better test its ability to take weight in the main seating area (the middle and to the back).
I also think that this concept makes the inserting of the back rest very difficult, and it may use up too much of the material.
The curvature around the middle and towards the front helps to stop the structure from swaying back to front.

Paper Trials - Concept 2
I love this concept, I think I will choose to carry this model on to refinement for the final piece.
The structure is really strong, this is just the basic one, it will obviously need more support underneath and to hold the back rest in place, perhaps using triangles in the base

Initial Concept Developement
From the research done on the 100%Design Tokyo event, there was a noticable lacking in seating around bars, hence I've drawn up some initial bar stool ideas. The other area I've explored is the 'relax' seating, there weren't many places in between exhibits for someone to just sit and take a breather, especially outdoors, so here are some initial low seating, lounge-type concept chairs.
